A New Chapter for Raw Milk in Utah
As HB 179 heads to the governor’s desk, Redmond celebrates a 20+ year journey to expand safe access to raw milk across the state.
REDMOND, Utah – March 20, 2026 — Utah is leading the raw milk conversation and continuing its track record of finding thoughtful middle ground on complex issues. The newly passed HB 179 is an important milestone for food freedom, a journey that Redmond has been part of for decades.
Raw milk is not a new or a passing trend in Utah. Long before it gained broader attention, Redmond was steadily working to show that access can expand responsibly while keeping it safe for families who choose it. Investing in careful herd management and rigorous handling and testing practices is part of Redmond’s mission to advocate for more transparency and understanding around the raw milk process.
“Like other Utahns, I was raised on farm-fresh food,” said Rhett Roberts, CEO of Redmond Inc. “We wanted to give our families and communities a chance to return to those same roots; make it easier for them to find whole foods from healthy and well-cared-for animals.”
Redmond owns 100% of its current distribution network, so raw milk moves directly from dairy to customer. With the passing of this bill, trusted partners are already lining up to extend that network so more Utahns can find safe, raw milk in local grocery stores. Redmond also exceeds state requirements and thoroughly tests every single batch so only perfect products reach the shelves.
“When we first started the farm, we kept a picture up in the dairy, of a little kid with a sippy cup,” said Brandon Foote, a founder at Redmond. “It helped us remember why we constantly test; to be sure that every bottle is safe enough to go to our own kids, families, and neighbors.”
Small batches of a fresh, living food mean customers sometimes find that product sells out quickly. Like a traditional farmstand, Redmond’s raw milk is sold at peak quality instead of sitting in coolers waiting for demand. The passage of this new House Bill will potentially open more doors and make it easier for Utahns to find the raw products they want.
Utah’s raw milk community has potential to become the Switzerland of the food world: a neutral zone where people with different viewpoints can find common ground over a glass of milk. From homesteaders to urban foodies, fans of natural foods can show up from all sides to rally around the value of knowing where their food comes from and supporting local farmers.
