Loco Moco

Take your taste buds on a trip to Hawaii with this Loco Moco recipe! It’s a hearty, comforting dish featuring juicy burger patties, caramelized onions, rich gravy, and sunny-side-up eggs, all piled high on a bed of fluffy white rice. Whether you’re craving a filling breakfast or a satisfying dinner, it’s sure to hit the spot.

Ingredients:

  • 2 burger patties
  • 1/4 tsp. olive oil
  • Real Salt Garlic Salt
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced
  • Real Salt
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 3 tsp. cornstarch slurry (2 tsp. cornstarch + 1/4 cup water)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. olive oil
  • Cooked white rice (or cauliflower rice)
  • Green onions and nori seaweed, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add 1/4 tsp. olive oil.
  2. Season the burger patties with Real Salt Garlic Salt and cook on medium-high for 3-4 minutes each side. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, cook the sliced yellow onions with a sprinkle of Real Salt over medium-low heat until caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Turn the heat to medium-high. Add the beef broth, soy sauce, and cornstarch slurry, stirring until thickened. Remove from heat.
  5. In a clean pan, heat 1 tsp. olive oil over medium heat and fry two eggs sunny-side-up.
  6. Assemble the Loco Moco by placing a serving of rice on a plate, topped with a burger patty, caramelized onion, sauce, and a fried egg.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and nori seaweed.

Note: To make this keto-friendly, replace the cornstarch with xantham gum and the white rice with cauliflower rice or omit it altogether.
