Re-Lyte Hydration is a clean electrolyte drink designed to help you hydrate better than with just water alone, and it doesn’t contain added sugar or artificial ingredients.

So how does it compare to traditional sports drinks? At a glance, they might seem similar, but when you take a closer look, there are some important differences that can impact how you feel and perform. Let’s break down what sets them apart so you can choose what’s right for you and your family.

Why Do Electrolytes Matter For Hydration?

Let’s start with the basics. Electrolytes—like sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium—are essential minerals that your body uses to balance fluids, support muscle function, and regulate nerve communication.

Every time you sweat, either from working out, hot weather, or even being under the weather, you lose both water and these important electrolytes. The salty taste in sweat? That’s electrolytes, like sodium, leaving your body.

Drinking water replaces the fluids you’ve lost, but water alone doesn’t replenish these critical electrolytes. Without them, your body can struggle to stay properly hydrated. This can lead to feelings of sluggishness, muscle cramps, and headaches.

What is the Role of Sports Drinks?

Sports drinks were originally created to support athletes during long, intense activities by replenishing electrolytes like sodium and potassium and providing a quick energy boost with sugar. For endurance events or extreme workouts, they can be helpful for temporary hydration and quick energy needs.

Many sports drinks contain more sugar than most people need for everyday hydration. While sugar can provide quick energy during long workouts, it’s not always necessary, especially for shorter or lower-intensity activity.

Many sports drinks also contain artificial ingredients. While these additives create fun colors and sweet flavors, they don’t contribute to hydration and may not align with your wellness goals.

Do Traditional Sports Drinks Have the Electrolytes You Need?

The short answer? Sometimes. Electrolyte levels in sports drinks can vary, but most don’t provide enough to fully replace what you lose through sweat. Research shows that heavy sweating can result in a loss of 1,000-1,500 mg of sodium per hour.

Dr. James DiNicolantonio, a cardiovascular research scientist, recommends consuming about 1,200 mg of sodium to help replenish salt and blood volume after intense exercise.

Many sports drinks provide around 100-400 mg of sodium per 16-oz serving, which may not keep pace with your sodium loss. Re-Lyte Hydration contains 810 mg of sodium per serving, making it a more effective choice for replacing what’s lost when you sweat.

In addition, Re-Lyte Hydration contains generous amounts of magnesium and calcium, two vital electrolytes that are missing from many sports drinks.

That difference is one of the biggest ways Re-Lyte stands apart from traditional sports drinks.

How is Re-Lyte Different?

Re-Lyte was designed with your body’s needs in mind. It takes a simple, clean approach to hydration. It’s made without added sugar, artificial colors or dyes, and uses sodium sourced from our unrefined sea salt, Real Salt, that we mine ourselves in Redmond, Utah.

Re-Lyte is sweetened with stevia, a natural, blood sugar-friendly sweetener, giving it a light, refreshing taste without sending your blood sugar on a roller coaster ride. Because it contains more sodium than many sports drinks, it does have a saltier flavor, which reflects the electrolytes your body actually loses through sweat.

Instead of an overly sweet taste, Re-Lyte has a clean, refreshing flavor that many people enjoy, especially during or after a workout. If you prefer a milder taste, you can always add a little more water to adjust to your liking.

All of that adds up to a balanced electrolyte mix that helps you stay hydrated without relying on white processed salt, sugar, or unnecessary additives.

Are Traditional Sports Drinks Healthy For Kids?

Many sports drinks are popular with kids, but they’re also one of the biggest sources of sugar in children’s diets.

That’s exactly why we created Re-Lyte Kids to give parents a cleaner option with balanced electrolytes, no added sugar, and no artificial dyes.

Ready for Cleaner, More Effective Hydration?

Hydration needs aren’t one-size-fits-all.  Some days you sweat more, move more, or just feel like you need a little extra support.

Re-Lyte gives you a clean, effective way to support your body without the extras you don’t need. Just balanced electrolytes, simple ingredients, and a formula designed to help you feel your best every day.
